Growing Our Roots: Why We Are Becoming the Ballymaloe Festival of Food and Farming

For years, the Ballymaloe Festival of Food has been a gathering for feast-seekers, producers, chefs, and food lovers from near and far. It has always been a place to share delicious meals and celebrate the richness of Irish and international food culture.
As we look to the future, we’ve found ourselves returning to a fundamental truth: without good soil, we simply cannot produce good food.
That is why we are thrilled to announce that our annual festival is evolving into the Ballymaloe Festival of Food and Farming.
The Heart of the Change: Soil, Farming, and Climate
Driven by Darren, owner of Ballymaloe Farm and a passionate advocate for regenerative agriculture, this shift reflects a vital mission. Food doesn’t begin in the kitchen—it begins under our feet, in the ground.
By bringing Farming explicitly into our name and festival focus, we are shining a spotlight on the crucial connection between what we eat and how it is grown:
While you will still enjoy all the world-class chefs, delicious pop-ups, cooking demos, artisan stalls, and live music you’ve always loved, adding farming to our core title opens up an exciting new dimension to the festival:
At its core, this evolution is about deepening our connection to the land and recognising that food and agriculture hold the key to a healthier planet and a better future.
We look forward to welcoming you to the farm to celebrate the delicious, vital connection between soil, food, and climate!
